JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - The Hispanic community is lagging behind in getting the COVID-19 vaccines.
Advocates say Hispanics face challenges from being undocumented or fearful of sharing their information to internet access. Several efforts are underway to inoculate the Latino community.
Esther Urbina is working to get vaccines into the arms of members of the Hispanic community. The Mississippi College senior has even helped people sign up for the shots on the State Health Departmentâs website.

(JACKSON, Miss.) Latino/Hispanic leaders will convene a special COVID-19 town hall forum at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, sponsored by Jackson State University and the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) to tout the benefits of vaccination to vulnerable immigrants and citizens.

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - With efforts to include minority communities during the pandemic, Mississippi State Department of Health set up a free COVID-19 testing center at the Vietnamese Buddhist Temple on Sunday.
“It was really important for us to find and try to create more access to our minority community across the state,” said Director of Health Equity, Chigozie Udemgba. “Especially here on the Coast- to make sure they have access to testing.”

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - Education and testing have been two key tools in the fight against COVID-19. Health leaders want to make sure both are available to everyone, and are making special efforts to reach minority communities.
Dr. Chigozie Udemgba is the Director of Health Equity for the Mississippi State Department of Health. He said the department is working with partners on the Gulf Coast to reach the Vietnamese and Hispanic communities right before people gather for the holidays.
