Protests Over Palestine Grow
Quite widespread support across the Celtic countries for condemnation of the continued bombing of Gaza in which as of today (May 16th) has an:
‘overall death toll in Gaza…at 188 people, including 55 children and 33 women, with 1,230 injured, according to the Hamas-controlled health ministry. Israel says dozens of militants are among the dead.’ (BBC News)
If the statement from Israel is meant to justify the bombing it’s about as inept as the Franco regime saying it was bombing a military objective when it bombed the market town of Guernica.
It seems the world has not moved on much in almost 70 years. People are outraged at the sight of small children being dug out of bombed buildings whose lives are ended or having suffered horrendous injury. Though some political figures give it a ‘Nelson’s eye’!

The inside look at how Nigel Carolan built a lasting legacy at Connacht. By Ciarán Kennedy Thursday 13 May 2021, 8:00 PM 2 hours ago 10,673 Views 2 Comments
IT’S THE EARLY 2000s and Connacht Rugby is in a bad place. On the pitch, the team are actually fairing alright. They reach the quarter-finals of the inaugural Celtic League in 2002, and repeat the trick in 2003, although the gap between themselves and the next tier of teams is clear.
On the other side of the country, heavy talks are taking place in the IRFU’s offices. Irish rugby’s governing body comes to the conclusion that Connacht simply aren’t worth the hassle or the money, and decide they will disband the club in a bid to ease the Union’s growing
Navy Clyde Pollution ‘Very Toxic to Aquatic Life’
Scottish investigative site ‘The Ferret’ recently had this article about pollution from the Royal Navy base at Faslane on the Clyde:
“The Trident nuclear base has been condemned by the Scottish Government’s green watchdog for its “poor” environmental performance after it polluted the Clyde with toxic chemicals.
“The Ferret can reveal that the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) criticised the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine base at Faslane near Helensburgh for breaching pollution rules in 2019.
“According to the navy this was because a “higher than usual level of chlorination” was detected in the Gareloch off Faslane. The base uses chlorine to prevent its waste discharge pipes from becoming clogged by algae, barnacles and seaweed.
The 100th Anniversary of a Flawed Concept
The State of ‘Northern Ireland’ was created 100 years ago. It was an artificial creation from the start. Ulster has nine counties, so to create a ‘State’ in which one group (unionists/protestants) would have a majority the British government restricted the new ‘State’ to six counties and left out three counties (Donegal, Cavan, and Monaghan) in which there were sizable protestant and unionist minorities. It is fair to say therefore that the new ‘State’ was viewed with a degree of disdain by both Nationalists and Unionists from the outset. See the article in Celtic League magazine CARN 179 (Mothership Prepares to Abandon the Colonials) which shows the attitude of Unionist Leader Edward Carson.
Centenary of Irish White Cross
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Irish White Cross; it was established to distribute funds raised in the United States to provide relief to those affected in Ireland by the War of Independence. In addition to widows and children orphaned by the War it also provided compensation to those whose properties were burned or demolished. The latter activity was particularly prevalent after the ‘Black and Tan’ and ‘Auxiliary Division’ were drafted to support the RIC. The former two groups, ‘Tans’, were vicious paramilitaries who murdered and burned or demolished both homes and commercial premises.
