Aleph Farms inks deal with BRF to pilot cell-based steak in meat-loving Brazil
05 Mar 2021 - Cell-based meat cultivated by Aleph Farms will be hitting Brazilian tables. The slaughter-free proponent has inked a new deal with global Brazilian meat and food company BRF to co-develop and produce cultivated meat using Aleph’s patented production platform BioFarm.
The deal is significant as it sees a traditionally meat protein company like BRF – which is one of the largest producers of animal protein and key exporter of poultry – turn to the future of cellular agriculture in its business model.
BRF will also distribute Aleph-backed cultivated beef products in the traditionally meat-heavy Brazil market.
Almost half (49.7%) of Chinese consumers surveyed say they were willing to sample cell-based meats, but almost as many (47.2%) said they would not wish to eat it regularly.
Nutreco again invests in cell-based meat producer Mosa Meat Mosa Meat, the company behind the world’s first cultivated beef hamburger, a feat it realized in 2013, announced the third and last closing of its Series B funding yesterday [February 23].
This third closing of $10m brings the total raised in the round to $85m. Investors in this last closing included new and existing investors like animal nutrition and fish feed group, Nutreco, and Jitse Groen, CEO of Just Eat Takeaway.com.
Mosa Meat said it will use the funds to extend its current pilot production facility at its home in Maastricht, develop an industrial-sized production line, expand its team, and get cultivated beef to the retail market.

After five to ten minutes of play, the number of dead animals left by the cat in front of their owner s door was reduced by a third.
