I m sure most of us knew this announcement was coming, but now it s confirmed; there will be no Easter Bunny at the CherryVale Mall this year.
I know a lot of parents treasure their kids yearly pictures with the Easter Bunny and that they display them proudly around their home during the Easter season, so if you re feeling a bit bummed about this news, don t worry, all hope is not lost.
You family can still get a picture VIRTUALLY with the Easter Bunny this year, but it won t be a one-on-one virtual experience like what was offered with Santa Claus in 2020.
ROCKFORD A common meme floating around social media is the picture of the actors from the famous 1980s movie The Breakfast Club sitting around staring at cell phones instead of talking to each other.
The message to the world is Generation Z would rather get lost in the digital world of phones and video games than interact with the rest of us.
The three seniors on Jefferson High School’s competitive cheer team can put that lie to rest.
“I wish I could sit around home,” 17-year-old Destiny Coleman said. “I like to stay busy. It keeps me focused and on track. I don’t really like down time.”
CHERRY VALLEY Authorities have made an arrest in a Valentine s Day shooting outside CherryVale Mall, saying the entire incident was captured on security video.
Marquise D. Caldwell, 31, is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and as an armed habitual criminal. The later charge is based on two previous convictions for illegal gun possession, Winnebago County State s Attorney J. Hanley said.
Village Police Chief Roy Bethge and Sheriff Gary Caruana joined Hanley Thursday at a news conference at an upper-level common area in mall where the charges against Caldwell were announced.
The very public display was a clear message to anyone walking by that violence will not be tolerated in the mall.

No Casualties, No Injuries in Shots Fired Outside CherryVale Mall
Another gun-related incident took place at CherryVale Mall on Valentine s Day. There were similar incidents that took place in 2016 and 2018, leading Rockford Police Chief Daniel O Shea to send a strong message to those who might consider repeating similar activities.
We re tired of the violence. You ve heard us say it before, if you re doing these acts we are coming for you. We are going to hunt you down and put you in prison should you be found guilty. (Q985online.com, 2018)
Several Rockford television stations were on the scene with live videos on Facebook after police arrived and confirmed the situation. On WIFR s Facebook feed, you will hear Chief of Police the Village of CherryValley confirm no one was injured and they found multiple empty shell casings at the scene of the incident. One person shopping inside the mall told me they thought they heard a loud bang and a temporary lockdown happened.
