CLINTON, S.C. (WYFF) - A 4-year-old child was killed in a Sunday morning apartment complex fire, according to officials in Laurens County.
Deputy Coroner Rodney Hartsell identified the victim as Madison Jeter, age 4.
The fire happened around 5:45 a.m. Sunday at the Landau Apartments on South Broad Street in Clinton.
Clinton Fire Chief Phillip Russell said they arrived to find flames at the 8-unit apartment complex, and made several attempts to get to the second floor of the complex, where Jeter was trapped.

CLINTON, S.C. (WYFF) - SLED is now investigating the cause of a large apartment fire in Clinton that killed a 4-year-old girl.
The fire happened at Laudau Apartments on South Broad Street in Clinton, according to Clinton Fire Chief Phillip Russell.
Crews responded to the 8-unit apartment building around 5:44 a.m. Sunday, Russell said.
Firefighters made several attempts to get to the second floor of the complex, where there was a person trapped, but “fire conditions were so bad, fire crews had to transition into exterior defensive attack,” according to Russell.
