Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., opens its gates for the first time as a COVID-19 vaccination “super site” Feb. 2 as the events industry works out logistics to back up its offer to President Joe Biden to provide sites and workers to staff them.As the battered and bruised live events industry approaches the anniversary of the near-complete shutdown of business thanks to COVID-19, it’s doubling down on efforts to not only save its stages but making a commitment to the communities on which they depend.
When the live industry spoke in one voice in a Jan. 26 letter to President Joe Biden offering assistance in setting up mass vaccination centers to combat COVID-19, it marked the culmination of multiple efforts and conversations happening separately but simultaneously.
Music venues & live event industry offer vaccine aid in letter to Biden
The National Independent Venue Association, aka NIVA, has teamed up with live event producers and other industry groups, including
Live Nation, AEG, We Make Events, The Broadway League, National Independent Talent Organization, and more, to offer their venues and staff to President
Joe Biden to aid in the process of giving out COVID vaccines. It s not a new idea Coachella producers Goldenvoice have been in talks with Riverside County, CA to create a mass vaccination site and with event workers continuing to weather the industry shutdown, with no new work on the horizon, their experience in setting up spaces and managing crowds of people could be a major boon to the vaccine effort.

Make Events has announced the appointment of its first managing director, former TRO board director, Nick Burrows.
Holly Moore, founder and CEO of Make Events, said: “At the start of 2020 it was my goal to make enough profit to be able to employ a managing director for Make Events. When sat at home contemplating how I would get us through Covid-19 there had to be something at the end to motivate me and that was to carry on and find an MD.
“We decided to search beyond the events industry, and this is becoming clear that was exactly what we needed. The team and I are very excited for this injection into the business.”
