Sprinkler System Puts Out Fire in Downtown Cheyenne Cheyenne Fire Rescue is reminding citizens that fire sprinklers save lives and property after a sprinkler system put out a fire in downtown Cheyenne early Thursday morning. Crews were called around 3 a.m. to the 1700 block of Carey Avenue, and arrived to find a fire extinguished by a single fire sprinkler head in a basement storeroom. Damage to the location was limited to light smoke and water from the fire sprinkler system, CFR said in a press release. Firefighters remained on scene to assist building staff with the water clean-up and to assist with the investigation.

City Worker Who Cleared the Way for Special Delivery Honored A Cheyenne Street and Alley crew member was recently honored for his work in helping first responders deliver a baby during last month s record-breaking snowstorm. On March 15, Owen Rogers used the front-end loader pictured above to clear the way for Cheyenne Fire Rescue and an ambulance to reach a woman in labor who gave birth to a 6-pound, 6-ounce boy. In recognition of his efforts, Rogers was presented with a certificate of commendation and a pin by Interim Fire Chief John Kopper. We re grateful for what our first responders and Street and Alley crew members did to keep us safe during that historic winter storm, city spokesman Michael Skinner wrote in an email to the media. Officials say that, Many, if not all the roads in Laramie County are impassible right now. Additionally, the Laramie County Commissioners, the Mayor of Cheyenne, and the State of Wyoming have placed the Level 1 Emergency Snow Plan into effect for Cheyenne and Laramie County. Due to unsafe road conditions and extreme weather conditions, all State of Wyoming facilities in Laramie County, the City of Cheyenne and Laramie County Government offices will be closed for business on Monday March 15, 2021. Non-essential employees are to remain home and shelter during this severe weather event.
