On May 21, the Indian Navy decommissioned its first destroyer INS Rajput. INS Rajput served the Indian Navy for 41 years.
The ship was decommissioned in a solemn and low-key event due to the ongoing COVID Pandemic when the National Flag, Naval Ensign, and the Decommissioning Pennant were lowered at sunset time in the presence of Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, AVSM, VSM Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command, the Chief Guest for the ceremony. In recognition of the yeoman service rendered to the nation by the ship, a Special Postal Cover was released by the Chief Guest on the occasion.

New Delhi: After 41 years of glorious service, the first destroyer of the Indian Navy, INS Rajput, will be decommissioned on Friday. The Kashin-class destroyer, built by the erstwhile USSR, was commissioned on May 4, 1980.
INS Rajput will be decommissioned at a solemn ceremony at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam. In her glorious 41 years, the ship had 31 Commanding Officers at her helm, Indian Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal had said earlier.
