At the time of writing this, popular apps including Google Search, Gmail, Google Chrome, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Meet, YouTube and Google Pay have not been updated for 4 weeks or more, for the Apple iPhone and Apple iPad. Some of these apps have received updates on Android during this time.

Google has not updated a single app on its roster, for the Apple iPhone, for four weeks or more now. That, in this day and age, is an abnormally long time to leave an app untouched without updates, bug fixes or functionality tweaks. Unless all of Google’s apps for the iPhone are absolutely perfect and perfection doesn’t need any updates, it seems a tad perplexing why this is happening. At the time of writing this,
New Delhi, Jan 6 : Google has refuted reports that it is delaying updates to its iOS apps on Apple App Store because it was not ready to be transparent
A (somewhat humorous) report began circulating yesterday that suggests Google purposefully stopped updating its apps on iOS to avoid placing Apple’s new mandatory App Store Privacy Labels on its apps. The company has since confirmed plans to add these labels.
For those unfamiliar with Apple’s privacy labels, the company rolled them out in mid-December alongside the release of iOS 14.3. The labels appear on applications available through Apple’s App Store and detail what data an app can access. That can include data “linked to you,” such as financial info or identifiers, data that isn’t linked to you, like location or search history, and more.
Contrary to reports, Google is not delaying updates to its iOS apps because it doesn’t aim to comply with Apple’s recently announced App Store Privacy Labels policy. The new policy, a part of the company’s larger privacy push, requires developers to disclose how data is collected from App Store users and used to track them. […]
