Sharjah’s boost for publishers hit by virus
30 Apr 2021 Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi The coronavirus has dealt a body blow to a lot of companies and industries around the world. Airlines have been grounded, layoffs have left many in the lurch, while many plants have shuttered.
The publishing sector in the region has also suffered due to the suspension of cultural events and book fairs, both regionally and globally. As a result, numerous publishers have been contemplating to either suspend operations temporarily or even close their businesses.
But not all is not lost, thanks to the generosity and magnanimity of Sharjah’s leadership. The Emirates Publishers Association (EPA) has welcomed a new directive issued by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to build a new HQ for EPA, which will be situated near Sharjah Expo Centre. The event will be hosted online in April by Asutil and IAADFS

Summit of the Americas will be an opportunity to bring the industry together at an important time, according to industry leaders in the region.
Representatives from
IAADFS and
Asutil hosted a web conference this afternoon to lay out their plans for the digital event which will run from 5-9 April.
They said the event will be a light at the end of the tunnel for the sector both in the region and worldwide.
Asutil Secretary General José Luis Donagaray explained: “It has been a really, really tough year for everyone but we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel; some countries are starting vaccinations and this give us some hope not only for the future but also for the business.”
