An 8-year-old boy from Seminole County, Florida, received 400 signatures in four days on his petition to make COVID-19 masks optional in school.
The boy, Charlie, and his mother opted to go the traditional route and collect signatures from neighbors rather than post it online, and they received a lot of positive feedback from people in the area. It s been . kind of bad because I can t see a lot of people, and I can t tell if they re happy or sad, Charlie told Fox News.
The 8-year-old said wearing a mask makes it hard for him to breathe, especially while playing. The idea to start a petition came from something he saw in a book, he said.

SANFORD, Fla. - The incoming superintendent of Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) sat down with FOX 35 News for the first time on Wednesday.
While Serita Beamon is starting her new position during a challenging time, she is very familiar with all that has going on in the district and has been working for SCPS for the last 16 years as an attorney.
Beamon said her first priority when she officially becomes superintendent is making sure that we can open schools in August safely.
Recent high school graduates can start at Seminole State College for free thanks to new program

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A new program at Seminole State College gives 2020 Florida high school graduates the opportunity to start college at no cost.
The Bridge the Gap program was developed in partnership with Seminole County Public Schools, but is open to any 2020 graduate who has not yet started college.

Seminole State College’s director of academic success Joe Huston said 2020 graduates left high school in a climate of uncertainty, and this program is designed to give them a solid start to higher education. Students will take two classes this summer, one called “College Success.”
