Under the distinctive bodywork, the Ami had tried and tested mechanicals from the more famous 2CV, which seems conventional in comparison
Sixty years ago today, Citroën unveiled a car intended to bridge the gap between the 2CV and the ID/DS range. Some enthusiasts applauded the distinctive lines of the new Ami 6 Berline – others thought it had escaped from a low-budget sciencen fiction epic. Indeed, David Scarff’s 1964 example featured here could never be confused with any other vehicle.

UK’s rarest cars: the innovative Fiat 127 is almost extinct after 50 years

Every successful subsequent small car followed the Fiat s front-wheel drive formula. This is a Series 1 car produced from 1971 to 1977
Fifty years ago this month, Fiat startled many of its more traditionally-minded customers. For the past 16 years, the motoring public associated the company’s small cars with rear-mounted engines, but here was a front-wheel-drive saloon with a transversely mounted engine driving the front wheels. With a newly purchased building in hand and a six-figure facelift for the property in store, Devin Weisleder and his Land Rovers are set to roll into Scott’s Addition.
The 2,000-square-foot former auto upholstery shop at 1004 N. Sheppard St. will soon be converted into a sort-of display case for Neo-Classic Cars, Weisleder’s used Land Rover Defender import business.
“The plan is to make this space almost like a showroom for the trucks and an office for me,” said Weisleder, who bought the building for $365,000 earlier this month. “Scott’s Addition has grown by leaps and bounds and I thought it’d be a fun place to showcase these vehicles.”

An Ipswich man thought he was the victim of a practical joke after being told he had won a classic car in a raffle held by a Suffolk firm.
Bridge Classic Cars, a family-run restoration company based in Pettistree, has been hosting a series of raffle-style competitions since the coronavirus lockdown last year.
One of its latest raffles was for a turquoise 1949 Morris Minor ‘MM’ Lowlight, which was first registered in Ipswich, with entries costing £9 each.
Matthew Sudgen won the competition after only purchasing a single ticket - and did not believe it when he found his name had been picked in the draw.
