Classic Physique Olympia champion Chris Bumstead has spectacular structure, shape and symmetry, but like all bodybuilders he’s had to work long and hard to build and carve a championship physique. Chris has had a friendly rivalry with two-time champ Breon Ansley for years, but at the 2020 Olympia, Chris Bumstead drastically improved his back and biceps, and at just 25 years old, decisively stormed his way to a second Olympia title. Chris Bumstead is the reigning king of Classic Physique who has more than earned his spot on the cover of this month’s Muscular Development.
MD’s Giles Thomas talked to Chris Bumstead about the improvements he has made, his growing confidence in his abilities, and his long-term goals in the sport for this month’s cover story, “The Classic Ideal! Chris Bumstead Seals the Deal With 2 Olympia Titles.”

2020 was your first year in the 212 division, and the first time you didn’t have to go down to 192 pounds in years. Was it liberating to know you could finally keep all your muscle and show it on stage?
For me, the best part of switching from Classic Physique to 212 was that the stress factors of losing muscle and making that lower weight were gone. I knew I could add more muscle and still be able to get to 212. There were times shortly before contests as a Classic pro where I was genuinely worried I would not make 192, and I would not be allowed to compete.

Endeavour Hills resident James Lobriza is a living, breathing example of how hard work and dedication pays off.
The 22-year-old has recently picked up a swag of awards for his bodybuilding, after months of sacrifice and commitment to his dream.
On Saturday 27 February, Mr Lobriza took part in the IFBB Juniors Bodybuilding Competition’s Victoria State Qualifiers, where he won the under-23s and under-70s body building divisions.
Just a few days later on Sunday 7 March, at the ICN Rising Star and Rookie of the Year event, he received gold for the Rookie Men’s Bodybuilding U23, Rising Star Men’s Classic Physique and Rookie Men’s Classic Physique, plus a silver in Rookie Men’s Bodybuilding Open.
