His name figured in woman officer’s harassment case The Election Commission of India (EC) on Tuesday ordered the immediate suspension of former Chengalpattu Superintendent of Police D. Kannan, who was earlier in the day transferred to a non-election post in accordance with the directions of the poll watchdog. Mr. Kannan’s name figured in the case of a woman SP being harassed by an officer in the rank of Special DGP.
In a letter to the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, EC Secretary Malay Mallick called for reporting compliance of the suspension order by 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Election Commission of India on Tuesday directed the Tamil Nadu government to suspend former Chengalpattu Superintendent of Police (SP) D Kannan with immediate effect.
D Kannan has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act for allegedly stopping a woman IPS officer from lodging a sexual harassment complaint against a former Special DGP.

The CB-CID in Tamil Nadu ordered the registration of an FIR against DGP Rajesh Das and SP D Kannan. A woman IPS officer had allegations of harassment against the former Special Director-General of Police, Rajesh Das while claiming that Kannan tried to prevent her from filing an official complaint in this regard.
Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Rajesh Das and Chengalpattu Superintendent of Police D Kannan have been booked under Section 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) of the IPC along with sections 3 and 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act. In February, the Tamil Nadu government had set up a six-member inquiry committee led by additional chief secretary Jayashree Raghunandan to probe the woman IPS officer s complaint.
