I stopped by The Fledge for the first time in late summer of 2018. Throughout most of her life, my good friend Janine visited the Nazarene Church that previously met at 1300 Eureka. I’d never heard of The Fledge, or Jerry and Shannon Norris. There were cars parked on the street and a few people milling about. Jerry Norris was the first to greet us. A show featuring a nationally known musician had just ended. Jerry took a break from cleaning up and gave my friend and I a quick tour.
I was mesmerized as Jerry described the variety of projects underway and the equitable community he envisioned. I learned that The Fledge functions as a community center that offers many opportunities including accessible entrepreneurial support, free household supplies and a recording studio.
