At least 24 COVID-19 patients on ventilator support died on Wednesday due to an interrupted supply of medical oxygen at a civic-run hospital at Nashik in Maharashtra caused by the leakage of the gas from a storage plant, officials said.
A senior civic official said of the 150 patients admitted to the hospital, 23 were on ventilator support at the time of the incident while the rest were on oxygen support. As per the current information, 22 people have died due to the interrupted supply of oxygen at the Zakir Hussain municipal hospital. The patients were on ventilators as well as on oxygen supply, which got interrupted after the leakage in the oxygen supply tank, district collector Suraj Mandhare told reporters. He later told that two more people had died in the incident.

22 patients die due to oxygen supply glitch at Maharashtra hospital

NEW DELHI, April 21, 2021 (BSS) – Some 22 Covid-19 patients died on ventilators in Maharashtra’s Nashik today after a sudden drop in pressure due to leakage in the oxygen supplies.
“As per current information, 22 people have died due to the interrupted supply of oxygen at the Zakir Hussain Municipal Hospital,” NDTV reported quoting district collector Suraj Mandhare today.
All the victims were on ventilators and in need of constant oxygen supply. Zakir Hussain Hospital is a Covid-dedicated facility. Around 150 patients were either oxygen-dependent or on ventilators.
Visuals showed gas leaking from the tanker outside the hospital and dense white fumes covering the area rapidly.

Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope said the incident would be probed.
