UP: Budding singer kidnapped, booked for fraud later

Lucknow, Dec 20 : A budding singer, who defrauded three persons of Rs 14 lakh on the pretext of giving them jobs, was then kidnapped by the persons he had taken money from.
According to Kaiserbagh SHO, Dinanath Mishra, On December 14, Sushila Devi, mother of a budding singer Sonu Singh, informed police that he left home to meet someone at the Kaiserbagh bus station but did not return. His phone was switched off and she had received a ransom call of Rs 15 lakh.
Ranchi: Former minister Hari Narayan Rai and his wife Sushila Devi, who were arrested by CBI in a disproportionate assets (DA) case on Wednesday, were sent to jail by the court of special CBI judge A K Mishra on Thursday.
Rai and his wife were found guilty in the DA case by CBI special judge Balkrishna Tiwary on December 14, 2016 and the court sentenced them to five-year imprisonment each. The court had also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each on them. The couple had approached the Jharkhand high court against their imprisonment order but their appeal was dismissed on November 4, 2020.
Following the dismissal of the appeal, CBI was on a lookout for the duo. Subsequently, they were arrested from the house of Rai’s father-in-law in Dumka after inputs provided by his driver.

A 37-year-old journalist was set on fire inside his own home in India and burned to death using hand sanitiser as an accelerant, police say, after he reported extensively on local corruption.
Rakesh Singh Nirbhik, who wrote for the local daily
Rashtriya Swaroop in the most populous state of Uttar Pradesh, succumbed to his injuries in a hospital in the state’s capital, Lucknow, late last month.
Nirbhik was targeted along with his friend, 34-year-old Pintu Sahu, by three men who forced their way into his house, police say. Sahu died at the scene.
