HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - In December, more than 66,000 Americans died from COVID-19, making this month the deadliest month so far in the pandemic.
Both Moderna and Pfizer’s vaccines have been distributed to front line workers across the country, but experts expect a drastic surge following the holidays.
System wide, there are a little shy of 500 inpatients within the Huntsville Hospital Health System. There are 242 inpatients in Madison County. That’s up 30 inpatients over the last two weeks with more than 100 employees in quarantine.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - The first rounds of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered to designated employees at Huntsville Hospital on Wednesday.
In total, 15 hospitals in the state will receive the vaccine by the end of the week and Huntsville Hospital is among the first.
The vaccine arrived at Huntsville Hospital on Tuesday and the first doses were injected on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. In total, Alabama is receiving nearly 50,000 doses in its initial allocation.

Huntsville Hospital will vaccinate its first health care worker Wednesday morning after the coronavirus vaccine arrived on Tuesday.
Inside Huntsville Hospital, workers have been doing dry runs of administering the vaccine to figure out the timing and logistics.
Hospital administrators have also done several table top demonstrations. That’s where they sit and discuss all the different phases of getting the vaccine administered.

COVID-19 vaccinations for frontline health care employees in north Alabama will start Wednesday morning and also be made available to physicians’ offices and emergency medical responders, a Huntsville Hospital spokesman said Monday.
The hospital is expecting 6,825 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to arrive Tuesday, hospital Senior Vice President Tracy Doughty said.
Another dose will be required in 21 days for full inoculation. The first-round doses are coming from the state, which is also holding the follow-up doses until they are needed. According to other AL.com reporting, half of the first doses will be allocated to hospital health care workers, 15 percent for EMS workers, 15 percent for physician offices, and 20 percent for other hospital staff.
