Qatari banks Masraf Al Rayan and Al Khaliji set for merger DOHA, January 9, 2021 Leading Qatari banks Masraf Al Rayan and Al Khaliji have entered into a merger agreement to create one of the region s leading Shari’ah-compliant regional banks.   The merger agreement is conditional on, amongst other things, obtaining regulatory approvals and upon the requisite resolutions being passed by the shareholders of Al Rayan and Al Khaliji. Both entities will continue to operate independently until the effective date of the merger.    It will be effected by a statutory merger whereby Al Khaliji will be dissolved and all of its assets and liabilities shall become part of Al Rayan by operation of law with effect from completion of the Merger.

The Peninsula Doha: Following the successful launch of its new Pro Bono Service, the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) has awarded its inaugural Pro Bono Appreciation Award to Omani & Partners Law Firm LLP and Sultan Al-Abdulla & Partners. The purpose of the QICDRC Pro Bono service is to extend support to eligible individuals who genuinely cannot afford to pay for legal assistance - namely those whose legal issues fall within the jurisdiction of the Qatar International Court or Regulatory Tribunal - and provide them with access to free legal advice and representation through the medium of volunteer lawyers and private sector law firms.

‘Qatar has enhanced economic laws’  16 Dec 2020 - 10:55 The Peninsula Doha: The State of Qatar attaches great importance to arbitration, particularly through the issuance of Law No (2) of 2017 promulgating the Civil and Commercial Arbitration and selecting Qatar as a seat of arbitration in a myriad of arbitration cases, according to Sheikh Dr. Thani bin Ali Al Thani (pictured), Member of Court of International Arbitration, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and representative of the State of Qatar. Speaking at a virtual forum of the ICC Young Arbitrators Forum (YAF) under the theme ‘Arbitration in Qatar: Current Issues & The Next Generation Opportunities’, Sheikh Thani stressed that Qatar has enhanced the laws related to economic sectors including the means of disputes resolution.
