âTourism activities in Goa must resume after total vaccinationâ
Goa Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar on Tuesday said tourism activities should resume only after the entire population of the coastal state is completely vaccinated against COVID-19. While the Goa government has allowed hotels to function, restaurants and other tourism-related activities have been shut due to the curfew, which has been in place in the state since May 9, when COVID-19 cases started peaking.
Speaking to PTI, the Minister said only tourists who are âfully vaccinated should be allowed to enter the state. âWe canât keep Goaâs tourism industry shut forever, as it is an important backbone of our stateâs economy, Ajgaonkar said.

Panaji, Feb 12 : A record 1.5 crore tourists arrived in Goa by the time coronavirus pandemic struck the country, Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar said on Friday.
Ajgaonkar said that the figure was arrived at following a survey by global consultancy firm KPMG engaged by the Goa government for the formulation of a tourism master plan.

Panaji, Jan 29 : The Goa Legislative Assembly on Friday debated over whether 45 lakh tourists visited the coastal state during the festive year-end season amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the Question Hour, the Opposition grilled Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar over Rs 33 crore spent by his Ministry on the promotion of the state.
Former Deputy Chief Minister and Opposition MLA Vijai Sardesai said that while Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had insisted that between 40 to 45 lakh tourists had visited the state during the year-end, Ajgaonkar s written reply tabled on Friday had claimed that provisional domestic tourist arrival figure was 9,71,479 for the whole of 2020 along with 7,935 foreign tourists.
