Ballots for Cantonians to cast votes for the candidates of their choice have just been made available this week. State law requires that absentee ballots be available 45 days before an election. Not so in Canton, Mississippi because of various maneuvers by the present Board of Aldermen which consist of Rodriquez Brown, Les Penn, Fred Esco, Daphne Sims, Timothy Taylor, Eric Gilkey and Lafayette Wales. (KAIT) - The Craighead County Quorum Court unanimously approved an amendment slashing more than $100,000 from the circuit clerk’s budget. Justice of the Peace Kevin Williams presented the amendment during Monday night’s meeting. According to Craighead County Judge Marvin Day, it defunds the chief deputy position held by John Smith and a criminal court clerk position currently vacant. It also removes all travel expense line items and miscellaneous expenses.
