Tupelo Major Thoroughfare Election: Voter registration deadline soon
The Major Thoroughfare election is on Feb. 2, 2021. The deadline to register is Jan. 2, 2021, at 12 p.m.

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The deadline to register to vote is almost here for Tupelo residents who want to vote in the upcoming Major Thoroughfare election.
Homeowners in the city of Tupelo pay an extra 10-mill tax to fund the Major Thoroughfare Program, which city leaders use to improve and update streets across Tupelo.
In the Major Thoroughfare election, voters will decide if they will continue to pay the tax. This will not be a new tax. City Clerk Kim Hanna said if voters approve it, the tax will simply continue for five more years, as it has done for the past thirty years.
The outgoing elected officials in Madison County were presented with plaques in honor of their years of service to Madison County residents at the Dec. 16 County Board meeting.
Outgoing County Auditor Rick Faccin was the only one presented with a plaque who was present at the meeting.
Faccin, who has been county auditor since December 2000, said he appreciated his 20 years serving the people of Madison County. Faccin, Von Nida, McRae, Wesley, Michael, Moore, Chapman, Parkinson, Novacich-Koberna
He said that he has met and worked with great people regardless of their political party.
“You learn a lot and you learn that just because your idea is different from somebody else’s doesn’t make them wrong and you right or vice versa,” he said. “And it’s been a pleasurable experience for me. Good luck to everybody and may God bless you and I wish everybody well.”
- All civil, criminal and traffic matters, including hearings and status conferences, are to be held remotely.
- All family matters are to be conducted remotely until further notice. Any matter that is currently scheduled for an in-person appearance will now be conducted remotely. If parties are unable to appear or participate remotely they should contact the Circuit Clerk to file an appropriate motion.
- All arbitration, mediation, foreclosure and probate matters are to be held remotely.
- All forcible entry and detainer actions/evictions are continued generally until further order of court.
- No wedding or civil union ceremonies will be conducted.
Coronavirus testing continues in Greene County after county moves into high risk category

GREENE COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - On Friday, the Alabama Department of Public Health said there was high risk for coronavirus in two counties in west Alabama.
Monday morning, one woman who’s still recovering from COVID-19 says she’s still concerned about the virus spreading.
“It didn’t kill me. It didn’t do much to me when I was diagnosed with it on the 21st. And God knows I’m still living today. And I thank the Lord for it,” Linda Cochrane explained.
