10 Vehicles Seized In Kupwara For Illegal Extraction Of Minor Minerals
SRINAGAR: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Imam Din, the District Mineral Officer (DMO), Geology & Mining department, Kupwara, Mumtaz Ahmad Shah today conducted raids in Nallah Mawar of Kupwara district to curb illegal extraction of minor minerals.
During the raids, the DMO seized ten vehicles (07 tippers and 03 tractors) carrying bajri, sand/silt illegally from the nallah and handed over the vehicles to Station House Officer Langate under challan No.1001, 1002, 1003, 1004 from the offenders.
On the occasion, the DMO warned the offenders to desist from the illegal extraction of minor minerals, adding that stern action under rules shall be taken against them. He said the vehicles were seized under Mines & Minerals Act 1957 under section 21 delegated under the J&K Minor Mineral Concession, Storage, Transportation of minerals and prevention of illegal mining rules 2016 issued vide SRO

Cabinet approves lifting of ban on coal lease

LAHORE:The provincial cabinet gave final approval to lift the 10-year ban on coal leases. A formal notification to lift the ban was issued by Amir Ijaz Akbar, Provincial Secretary Mines & Minerals. On the occasion, the Provincial Secretary Mines & Minerals Department said that lifting the ban would not only boost the morale of existing investors but also attract new ones to invest. The provincial cabinet has also constituted a committee to promote competition in the mineral sector and for a far better strategy which will present its recommendations to the cabinet.
