There has probably never been a more important time to support the local restaurants we love and we will have plenty of opportunities to do so next week.
Downtown Marquette’s annual Restaurant Week kicks off Sunday and while ongoing capacity restrictions will prevent the usual hustle and bustle the weeklong event brings, food lovers can still cash in on some awesome deals from 16 participating local businesses.
“Downtown Marquette Restaurant Week is a highly anticipated event for both locals and visitors to the area,” said Tara Laase-McKinney, events and promotions coordinator for the Marquette Downtown Development Authority, in a news release. “There’s something for everyone. With so many delicious offerings, it will be tough to choose where to eat first. It’s my favorite week of the year in downtown Marquette.”

As much as anything, the greater Marquette area’s history is tied to water, specifically Lake Superior.
The big lake offered transportation, food and recreation to the earliest white settlers, as it always had to Native Americans.
With all of that and much more in mind, local author Sonny Longtine has penned “Marquette: A Waterfront Renaissance,” which showcases the city’s 10 miles of shoreline through historical facts, stunning photography and more.
Longtine is well familiar to local readers. He’s authored a series of books on the region including but not limited to “U.P. People: Incredible Stories about Incredible People;” “Marquette: Then and Now;” and perhaps his most popular, “Murder in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.”
