South Coast prepares for possible Public Safety Power Shutoff

SCE Areas that could see their power shut off due to red flag conditions. SANTA BARBARA, Calif. A heatwave is hitting California’s South Coast. The First Alert Weather team is expecting temperatures to hit as high as 109 in part of Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. Gusty winds and low humidity are also expected from Monday evening through Wednesday morning. The hot, dry and gusty conditions are creating red flag fire danger warnings for the South Coast. As a precaution, Southern California Edison (SCE) is preparing for Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). PSPS is when they shut off power to an area in case power lines get blown over by the wind it lessens the chance of starting a wildfire.

SoCal Edison considers power shutoffs in Santa Barbara County due to elevated fire risk SoCal Edison and last updated 2021-06-14 02:50:21-04 Thousands of residents in Santa Barbara County could have their power shut off this week due to elevated fire risk. Southern California Edison is considering a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) in Lompoc, Gaviota, Goleta, Santa Barbara and Montecito. According to the utility company PSPS outage map, about 5,100 customers are under a PSPS consideration. A PSPS is issued when elevated weather conditions have the likelihood of sparking vegetation or other items to be blown into power lines possibly creating a wildfire.
