How to Cope With Work-From-Home Burnout

Changed sleep habits Recognizing the signs of burnout is the first step to addressing it, says Steginus. That s important, because studies point to significant health concerns if burnout isn’t addressed. For example, some research has found that burnout can considerably increase the risk of cardiovascular problems, including high blood pressure. A study published in October 2017 in PLoS One found links between burnout and gastrointestinal issues, prolonged fatigue, higher pain levels, respiratory problems, insomnia, musculoskeletal pain, and even a shorter life span. As Steginus notes, burnout doesn t just affect you, either. The old adage “You can’t pour from an empty cup” applies here if you’re completely depleted, it makes it much harder, if not impossible, to take care of those around you. “Burnout has a ripple effect,” she says.

Scented Candles and COVID-19 | Everyday Health

Loss of the ability to detect aromas can be a sign you have COVID-19. You’ve just received some holiday-themed candles, so you strike a match and then settle back to enjoy the lovely scents of cinnamon and pine. But eventually you realize that what you smell is …. nothing. Is it a manufacturing snafu or could this be an early warning sign of COVID-19? It was the latter possibility that intrigued Portland, Oregon–based science illustrator Terri Nelson, enough that she began looking at online reviews of scented candles. She found plenty of evidence that something was amiss. Writing on Twitter in late November, she noted, “There are angry ladies all over Yankee Candle’s site reporting that none of the candles they just got had any smell at all. I wonder if they’re feeling a little hot and nothing has much taste for the last couple days too.”
