AGARTALA: Three construction workers who were kidnapped by insurgents of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) from a village near the Indo-Bangla border in Tripura have been released, police said on Thursday.
The workers engaged by National Project Construction Corporation Ltd (NPCC) for erection of border fencing at Maldapara village in Dalai district, under the jurisdiction of Ganganagar police station, about 140 km from here, were kidnapped on December 7, police said.
They were released on Wednesday evening, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Tripura Police Subrata Chakraborty said.

Agartala, Dec 24 : Terrorist outfits in Tripura are facing serious fund crisis and manpower shortage, forcing their cadres to return to the mainstream by deserting the extremists groups, Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) V.S. Yadav said on Thursday.
The police chief said that the hostile situations in their outfits and hideouts forced four top National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) terrorists, who were trained at a camp in Myanmar, to surrender on Thursday and deposit some sophisticated arms and ammunition.

More than a fortnight after they were kidnapped near the Bangladesh border, the three border fencing workers have been released by National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT-BM) ultras.
Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Tripura Police Subrata Chakraborty told indianexpress.com that the trio was released on Wednesday due to “continuous operations” by the local police and other security forces, and “tremendous pressure” mounted on overground workers of the insurgent outfit inside Tripura.

Agartala, Dec 24 : Three persons kidnapped from Tripura by members of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) have been released after 17 days of captivity in adjoining Bangladesh territory, police said on Thursday.
However, small-time trader Litan Nath, 35, still remains untraced 28 days after his abduction at gunpoint by tribal guerrillas from Malda Kumar Para, a remote village in northern Tripura along the Tripura-Mizoram border, on November 27.
A senior police official said that faced with mounting pressure from Border Security Force and other paramilitary and state forces, the NLFT militants released the three kidnapped persons on Wednesday night in a mountainous forested area along the India-Bangladesh border.
