The tear-down of the Douglas Point nuclear facility near Bruce Power is continuing and there are plans for the rest of 2021 and 2022.
Several people including Decommissioning Manager Joe Holstead were on hand at a recent Kincardine Committee of the Whole meeting to update councillors.
Holstead says they are cleaning out all the asbestos in all the non-nuclear buildings on site.
Holstead says they have about 30,000 pounds of low-level waste from the purification building.
He says most of that will be recycled.
Whatever’s left will not go to the nearby Western Waste Management Facility but will be trucked to Chalk River for processing.
