Sutton Council is planning to begin the installation of air quality sensors as part of the Breathe London project.
It has announced that it will be begin the roll out at sites close to the entrances of a handful of primary schools in the borough.
As part of the InnOvaTe Project – to promote the use of internet of things technology among the South London Partnership of local authorities – Sutton will combine data from the sensors with that Vivacity traffic monitoring sensors to improve the understanding of the effects of different transport modes and movement patterns on air quality.
Councillor Manuel Abellan, chair of the borough’s environment and sustainable transport committee, said: “Access to more accurate real time data will provide insights of overall air quality and congestion levels in the borough, and help build clear a picture of the environment and health of our schools and communities.

The woman, in her late 20s, who lives on a housing estate in Sutton, was put on child protection after she was assaulted early this year. She says she was offered a move because of the domestic violence so that she could keep her four children safe, but only received an offer on a property around two months later on March 29.

New Lidl set for Sutton High Street Construction is underway for a new Lidl set for Sutton High Street, following permission granted by Sutton Council. Lidl is working with construction firm STS for the fit-out phase of the new store which will create around 40 new jobs when opened. The works are expected to take up to five months, with a view to opening the store in late summer. The new store with 1,675m² sales area, will also feature facilities including an in-store bakery and ample parking for both cars and bicycles.

Statistics of primary school offer places revealed The overwhelming majority of school children in Sutton secured a place at one of their preferred primary schools on the UK s National Offer Day 2021 (April 16). Sutton Council has revealed that 97% of families in the borough who applied are being offered a place at one of their preferred options. Council authorities confirmed that there was 2,563 Sutton resident applications for September 2021. All pupils that applied have been offered a place at school and of those who applied, 2,440 (95%) of children received one of their top three preferences. It was reported that 2,207 (86%) were offered their first preference school.
