JOHOR BARU: A steering system failure is suspected to be the cause of a collision between a bulk carrier and a cargo ship at Sungai Muar near here.
Johor MMEA director First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria said that a Malta-registered bulk carrier (MV Galapagos) was reported to have experienced a steering system failure which caused it to veer to the right and block the route of a Britain-registered cargo ship (MV Zephyr Lumos) that was passing by it.
“MV Zephyr Lumos failed to avoid MV Galapagos, causing the collision to happen at about 14.1 nautical miles southwest of the Sungai Muar estuary,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
