(KTIV) – State health officials reported 1,104 new positive cases in Iowa between 10 a.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday, this is according to the COVID-19 dashboard.
At 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Iowa Department of Public Health reported 314,066 total positive cases since the pandemic began. That number rose to 315,170 by 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The state s dashboard says out of those who have tested positive, 277,830 have recovered, an increase of 1,378 since yesterday.
The state has reported eight additional deaths connected to COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the state s death toll to 4,500.
Subtracting the number of recoveries (277,830) and the number of deaths (4,500) from the total number of cases (315,170) shows there are currently 32,840 active positive cases in the state.

Governor Kim Reynolds announced yesterday, Iowans 65 and older will soon be eligible for the next wave of COVID-19 vaccinations.
Governor Reynolds talked about the second tier of COVID vaccination in Iowa, which will eventually immunize more than 530,000 people. Iowans 75 and over, health care workers and staff, and residents at long-term care facilities were given the first batch,
The second tier rollout begins February 1. It will offer vaccines to essential frontline workers, first responders, and teachers. Reynolds says the state cannot open up vaccines to all Iowans just yet.
Iowa is currently receiving 19,500 doses per week. However, those numbers could change with the new administration in place.
