Temper Grille in Mishawaka to close for good, as owner points to COVID restrictions

MISHAWAKA — Just before COVID-19 struck in March, it looked like Temper Grille was going to have a record year, chef and owner Sean Kelley said Saturday of the black-tablecloth restaurant and bar that he started 10 years ago, serving unique “American tapas.” But, on Friday, Kelley announced that Temper Grille will close permanently after its last meal on Dec. 18, blaming the pandemic and restrictions. He’d only been able to do in-house dining for a few months this year, at just 50% capacity, he said. More than six months had been spent doing carryout only, including after an employee was infected with COVID-19 this fall.
