ECU to implement new on-campus parking procedures, community reflects

East Carolina University Parking and Transportation (P&T) will implement new license plate recognition (LPR) software for the 2021-2022 academic year on its enforcement vehicles to scan license plates to determine if vehicles have valid permits to park in university lots.  ECU Parking and Transportation (P&T) Enforcement Supervisor Joshua Puckett said the cameras which are on the vehicles parked in university lots cannot scan license plates if a student’s car is backed in or pulled through. He said P&T has worked on a way to create a separate space for students and faculty to back in or pull through.

A University of Arizona research team documented 34 Asian students experiences facing discrimination during the pandemic last year, and it wants to hear from more UA Asian students. Five interdisciplinary UA doctoral students with diverse Asian backgrounds Kiera Midori Coulter, Jared Joshua Anucha Barnett, Raynimol Thomas, Sei Eun Kim and Zhenqiang Zhao noticed the national trend of Asian discrimination and hate crimes on the news and social media last summer. Some of them had faced discrimination as well.
