Pandemic dominates the year 2020

The coronavirus pandemic, protests over the police killing of George Floyd, the Blue Ridge fire, lockdowns, and the closing of schools rocked the Chino Valley and the rest of the nation during this extraordinary year. The devastation was matched by the goodness of residents who helped school children cope with social isolation, collected food and items for those hit hardest by the pandemic, and rallied around frontline healthcare workers. Barely had the year begun when the coronavirus pandemic originating in Wuhan, China spread across the globe resulting in 334,000 deaths in the United States by the end of the year. There were 11 deaths in Chino Hills and 70 in Chino, with 26 of those at the California Institution for Men in Chino and one at the California Institution for Women.

Robbery victim knocked unconscious at Chino Hills gas station on Christmas

Police in Chino Hills are looking for two men wanted for assaulting and robbing a man Christmas afternoon at a gas station in Chino Hills. Deputies went to the Shell Gas Station at 3310 Grand Ave. at Peyton Drive at 3:24 p.m. on a report of an unconscious man in the parking lot, said Sgt. Michael Warrick. The unidentified man had been knocked unconscious before the suspects stole the victim s property and fled. A description of the suspects was not provided. Anyone with information can call Chino Hills Police Department at 364-2000.

Chino Hills City Hall and the city yard will be closed from Thursday, Dec. 24 to Friday, Jan. 1, 2021 and will reopen Monday, Jan. 4, 2021. The Chino Hills Police Department lobby will be closed Thursday, Dec. 24, Friday, Dec. 25 and Thursday, Dec. 31 to Friday, Jan. 1, 2021 and will reopen Monday, Jan. 4. The Chino Hills Community Park will be closed Thursday, Dec. 24, Friday, Dec. 25 and Thursday, Dec. 31 to Friday, Jan. 1, 2021 but the parking lot will remain open for trail access.  If your regular trash collection falls on or after Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, trash pickup in Chino Hills will be delayed one day.
