Taipei, May 11 (CNA) The Novotel airport hotel in Taoyuan, which is at the center of a COVID-19 infection cluster and currently closed for disinfection, will be used exclusively for quarantine guests when it reopens in late June, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications said Tuesday. We hope to place as many flight crew as possible in quarantine hotels near the airport to reduce the risk of community transmission, said Deputy Transportation Minister Chi Wen-jong (祁文中).
The current COVID-19 quarantine measures applied to China Airline (CAL) pilots have already created demand for 600-800 rooms, Chi said.
Turning CAL-owned Novotel into a dedicated quarantine unit will secure all its 500 rooms for flight crew members, mostly those from CAL, facilitating more efficient disease control amid tight hotel room supply, he said.

CECC offers bonus for referrals that find infections
By Lee I-chia / Staff reporter
An additional bonus is to be offered to primary healthcare facilities if they refer a patient to a designated COVID-19 hospital for testing and the result comes back positive, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said yesterday.
As several locally transmitted COVID-19 cases associated with staff at an airline and hotel have been reported, and as most of them experienced common symptoms, including a fever or respiratory problems, a reward mechanism has been launched to encourage more proactive testing, the CECC said.
As of yesterday, 28 confirmed cases, including 14 local infections, linked to Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport and China Airlines had been reported since the middle of last month.
CECC reports four more local cases
HIGH-RISK GROUP: After the latest outbreak, family members of workers exposed to infection would from tomorrow be eligible for government-funded vaccines
By Lee I-chia / Staff reporter
The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) yesterday reported four local COVID-19 cases: three family members of an infected worker at a quarantine hotel and a family member of an infected pilot.
The new cases bring the number of infections involving China Airlines Ltd (中華航空) pilots and the Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport hotel, where many of the airline’s crew members quarantined, to 24.
Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), who heads the center, said three of them are the husband, son and daughter of case No. 1,129, a woman in her 60s, who works at the hotel.
