In the infancy of Hollywood, the film industry was controlled by only a handful of studios: RKO Radio Pictures, 20th Century, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Those five titans built a studio system that survives, in film and television, more or less intact, to this day.
But as the era of peak TV has re-shaped the entertainment industry, and the phrase content is king has become as ubiquitous as new spouses for members of the Kardashian family, the landscape is being collectively re-shaped as quickly as it is breaking into ever-smaller fragments.
