Metacon expands into electrolysis market
, January 14, 2021 Metacon has widened its offering to the market for hydrogen production by making an investment in Water2H2, a Swedish company specialised on the design and delivery of electrolysis plants. Metacon has decided to invest SEK6 million ($720,000) through a directed new share issue in Water2H2 AB. Metacon will initially own 20 per cent of Water2H2, and has a non-binding option to acquire all shares in the company within 12 months. The purchase of the remaining shares will be based on a price linked to sales targets of Water2H2, however, with a total price not exceeding SEK59 million. Payment will be made by way of new issuance of shares in Metacon.

Rounding out an already-intense 2020, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (“BIS”) issued three notices in December that expanded export sanctions and restrictions against Chinese, Russian, and other enterprises and institutions accused of engaging in activities contrary to U.S. interests. On December 18, BIS announced export sanctions against Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (“SMIC”), the largest semiconductor producer in the People’s Republic of China (“PRC”), along with 76 other entities, the vast majority of which are PRC enterprises and research institutes. On December 23, BIS created a new Military End User (“MEU”) List that designates specific PRC and Russian entities for more stringent export licensing requirements under the MEU rule expanded by BIS earlier in the year. Reganosa has been awarded the contract to operate and maintain a liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal in Tema, Ghana. Currently under construction, the Tema LNG terminal is an innovative addition to the regions infrastructure and unique in sub-Saharan Africa, as both its storage (FSU) and regasification (FRU) units are floating.
Tema LNG Terminal Company (TLTC) awarded Reganosa the contract for the O&M of the FSU and the FRU, as well as the associated 6km gas pipeline and a pressure reduction and metering station connected to the existing pipeline network, which will be in the power and industrial enclave of Tema.

It is an aggressive plan and if it works out, China will have a fleet of battleships to match its ambitions for a blue-water navy over the next decade.

The aim is to have a fleet that can guard its growing number of aircraft carriers and its interests around the world, including oil lifelines from the Middle East and its outposts in the contested South China Sea.
