Ferrari 812 Competizione and Competizione A Just because it can and let’s be honest, we’re all delighted it has Ferrari has unveiled a new limited edition model, the 812 Competizione. Unveiled alongside an open-top 812 Competizione A targa-style version, the limited edition is a more powerful, lightweight variant of the Italian brand’s front-engined 812 Superfast. Both the 812 Competizione and 812 Competizione A are powered by a tuned version of the 6.5-litre V12 engine in the 812 Superfast. With the benefit of a number of mechanical upgrades, the powerplant now delivers 819bhp; up 28bhp from the ’standard’ unit. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a recalibrated version of the 812’s seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Ferrari says shift times have been reduced by five per cent.

This is a new limited edition Ferrari based on the 812 Superfast - a pumped up, more powerful, lightweight variant of the brand’s latest front-engined V12 berlinetta, which will be revealed in full on 5 May.  Ferrari has not yet revealed a name, but earlier this year, the model was referred to as a ‘Version Speciale’ 812 Superfast. It is, in essence, the 812’s equivalent to the F12tdf. It makes use of that car’s 6.5-litre V12 engine, but power increases to 817bhp over the 789bhp output of the 812, with the rev limiter increasing to 9,500rpm. Power unit modifications include the redesign of key components such as the valve timing mechanism and a new exhaust system. Ferrari has not yet revealed any performance figures.

Following in the tyre tracks of the wild Ferrari F12tdf, the new 812-based special-edition gets a long list of external changes, dynamic upgrades and under-bonnet performance enhancements. The big news is the Ferrari 812 Versione Speciale has had power of its naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12 wound up from the standard car’s 588kW to an incredible 610kW.
