West Seattle’s only “edible park” invites you to stop by on Thursday night and bid 2020 farewell.

With our sights set on new hope in a new year, many of us feel the need to reflect on the struggles and losses of the past year and the 1.7 million souls we have lost. We also may want to say a swift goodbye to 2020 as well.
Therefore, the volunteers at Puget Ridge Edible Park thought it would be a good idea to invite our friends and neighbors to a Covid Candlelight Vigil and Say Goodbye to 2020 New Year’s Eve at the community garden. We have a luminaria-candlelit pathway to bring up to 5 people at a time to our New Year’s Eve fire to toss out the old year by throwing into the fire a written message or any symbol of bad memories over the last year.

Kristina Thanks so much for letting us know we need to see the Arbor Heights display before 10pm. Does anyone know the actual time those lights are turned off? The video of their display is absolutely amazing.
emcat8 December 25, 2020 (12:30 pm) Wow, that display is fantastic! What a lot of work must go into that.WSB, would you consider running the light posts through New Year’s? I know a lot of people take things down before then, but like you said, this year more than ever they mean something, and it’s so uplifting to see these–I have trouble walking at night (especially with a mask on) and don’t have anyone else to drive, so I can’t really go around looking for lights. I really appreciate these posts.

Erin in Sunrise Heights for our first photo – her house on 31st SW, with the famous treetop stars near Othello/32nd/34th [vicinity map] in the background. She says, “I especially want to call out the giant evergreen trees. The three have been lit just about every year for the 18 years we’ve lived here and they bring us such joy. Just like the tree on the Space Needle, these lit trees symbolize that it’s the holiday season! Thank you to our neighbors who light them up every year!”

Jackie for the photo of that display in the 3800 block of 36th SW [vicinity map]. Jackie explains, “They have been displaying decorations and lights for many years. It is a complete labor of love as these two are approaching 80 years. This year they added some new deer and a fabulous ‘joy’ sign. The sleigh is handmade. There is a teddy bear window and a window with carolers.”
