SEATTLE The Seattle City Council has voted to move 911 dispatch control from the police department to a new civilian-led call center.
The ordinance, which was approved Monday by a vote of 7-0, will transfer 140 positions from the Seattle Police Department’s (SPD) 911 dispatch center to the new Community Safety and Communications Center, according to a staff memo.
Most 911 dispatchers are not sworn officers.

When coronavirus resulted in children being sent home from school so they could learn remotely in order to stay safe, law enforcement officials say online predators were waiting for the underage students.
The result has been an explosion of sexploitation and X-rated images of juveniles that have been posted online, prompting renewed efforts to track down offenders and curb the illegal online activity.
An undercover detective with the state s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force said it can be easy for children to fall into traps set by online stalkers.

SEATTLE A couple in their 70s was injured during an apparent road rage incident Thursday morning in West Seattle, and now police are searching for the suspect.
The alleged incident took place in the intersection of 16th Avenue SW and SW Holden Street after 8:15 a.m. Thursday.
The couple told Seattle police that they first encountered the alleged shooter when they honked at him during the morning commute, according to Seattle Police Department Sgt. Randy Huserik.
