MANGALURU: While several organisations have volunteered to be part of the beach cleaning drives on Karnataka’s coast, 74-year-old Gopal K Baliga, a yoga instructor, is an inspiration to all. Upset over plastic litter, water and glass bottles on the beach, Gopal, who walks for 90 minutes on the beach in the morning and evening, has been collecting trash every day.
Gopal worked in private sector companies, including banks in Mumbai and Delhi. He hails from the district. He decided to return to Mangaluru, two months ago, after almost 50 years. After retirement, he has been volunteering as an instructor for Shivananda Yoga, a centre in Kerala’s Kasaragod district. However, he was forced to take a break due to the pandemic.
