It may never rival Silicon Valley, but Mesa is fast becoming Data Center Alley.
Several global companies are at various stages of plans to start crunching and storing data in southeast Mesa.
Most people have heard of Google and Apple â RagingWire, not so much.
And many around Mesa have heard Apple already has a sprawling data center and Google is planning an even bigger one around southeast Mesaâs Elliot Technology Corridor, which runs along the north side of Eastmark.
But while the secretive Google is taking its time on a project Mayor John Giles and Mesa City Council were crowing about two years ago, RagingWire is already building along Elliot Road.

Swedish defense procurement agency Försvarets materielverk (FMV) has signed an order with Grob Aircraft of Germany for the supply of a military training system based on the G 120TP trainer aircraft. The deal covers seven aircraft, simulator, and other computer-based training aids, along with flight safety equipment. Grob will also provide line and heavy maintenance.
To be designated SK 40 in Swedish air force service, the G 120TP will undertake the Grundläggande flygutbildningen (GFU) basic training phase at Malmen airbase near Linköping. Currently, the training is undertaken using the Saab SK 60 jet trainer. Despite having undergone a series of upgrades the SK 60s are nearing the end of their useful lives, with the type having been in service since 1967.
Like spring flowers popping up in gardens and lots around town, what can be called âIndustrial Mesaâ is in bloom.
In the southeastern corner of the city, big chunks of land remain undeveloped â but not for long.
Development plans zipped through approval phases for multiple projects that will throw up huge warehouses and other industrial buildings.
Mayor John Giles, Economic Development Director William Jabjiniak and others have joked about âlanding some big fishâ with recent deals.
Google, the prized marlin, has been hard to reel in.
Earlier this year, Jabjiniak said he expected Google to break down on a massive campus near Sossaman and Elliot road this spring.
Catawba Valley Community College volleyball’s sophomore outside hitter Aasia McNeill was named a first team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
McNeill, who becomes the 41st All-American for the Red Hawks, said the news came as a surprise after her teammates posted the announcement in a group chat.
“It was definitely a shock,” she said. “It is definitely a huge honor, and it was a blessing that the NJCAA selected me.”
A Statesville native, McNeill tallied a team-high 255 kills and 3.31 kills per set this season for the Red Hawks. She also finished second for CVCC in hitting percentage (.293), digs (231) and digs per set (3.00).
