First up, we have the story of a birthday celebration like none other. Georgia Dixon of Cleveland recently turned 103, a milestone that she likely would not have reached if it hadn’t been for Dr. Michael Farah and his team at University Hospitals. They’ve waited their whole lives for this moment.
Four adult red wolves were released into a wildlife refuge in eastern North Carolina, and four red wolf pups were fostered to a female in hopes of rebuilding the world’s only wild population of the endangered species. Before the release, there were seven red wolves living in the wild, down from 130 in 2005-06.

Just a quick boat ride away lies a remote island, with more than 12,000 acres of undeveloped paradise. If you think about the core premise of a wilderness is, ya know, a place that is untrampled by humans, Deputy Refuge Manager for St. Vincent NWR John Stark said. This island is about as close as you can get to that in a coastal Florida area.
