A free Zoom Darwin Day celebration featuring internationally acclaimed artist/author/naturalist/conservationist James Prosek is planned for 7-9 p.m. Friday Feb. 19, according to a press release. Melding natural science with art, Prosek’s work has been shown worldwide, notably at London’s Royal Academy of Arts, and at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington D.C. His latest book is Art, Artifact, Artifice (Yale University Press; 2020). Commemorating Charles Darwin’s birthday which falls on Feb. 12, Prosek’s presentation will address “Making Sense of the Natural World through Art.”

Underlying aspects of the new “Brim & Crown” luxury apartments at 230 East Ave. will be explored by a panel of the project’s principals in a Zoom webinar, “Anatomy of a Deal,” at 11 a.m. Wednesday Feb.10, according to a press release from law firm Halloran Sage.
Presenters including Halloran Sage partner James Maher, Spinnaker Real Estate asset management & acquisitions director Matt Edvardsen, Beinfield Architecture principal Seelan Pather, and Webster Bank senior vice president James Lane will discuss Brim & Crown’s financing and design, and the TOD process.

On Monday, after would-be operators of a Norden Place distribution center withdrew their application for the project, Farhan Memom of the Sasqua Hills Neighborhood Association suggested a moratorium on development within the R&D and Light Industrial Manufacturing Zone.
Others have suggested such a moratorium; it’s an oversight that one wasn’t enacted as the City worked on a study of Norwalk’s industrial zones, they say.

The City is advising you to take common-sense steps to protect your health and safety as arctic temperatures impact Norwalk through the weekend, setting the stage for a potential winter storm early next week.
A press release said:
Mayor Rilling has opened the Community Room at the Norwalk Police Department to act as a warming center. Residents must wear a well-fitting mask or face covering (two or more layers) over their nose and mouth and secure it under their chin. Those at the Community Room must also physically distance by maintaining a space of at least six feet between themselves and those not from the same household. Other options for warming spaces include visiting friends or family, a movie theater or shopping mall. Please continue to follow all COVID-19 protocols. Here are additional safety tips:

Norwalk’s historical Hour Press Building will be featured in an episode of “American Pickers” on The History Channel at 9 p.m. Monday Jan. 25, according to a press release. Said to be more than a century old, the edifice provides fertile territory for the series’ stars, two partners who travel the U.S. in search of forgotten antiques.
