EBT or Electronic Benefit Transfer is the government transfer of cash and benefits to welfare and food stamp beneficiaries. Said beneficiaries can now apply online.
The NY food stamp program, called
SNAP (Supplementatl Nutrition Assistance Program), enables people to electronically transfer their food stamps from a bank account to a debit card which can be used at authorized food stores. The program allows for recipients to have savings while collecting food stamps.
It is hard to know how many safeguards against corruption are now in place since electronic transfers are making it easier to collect the entitlements and use them illicitly with willing parties. Some Californian EBT recipients were caught trading them for poker chips in Vegas. One could make a case for this being one big scam to transfer wealth. Government Welfare Debit Card
