The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin was sworn in as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu by Governor Banwarilal Purohit at Raj Bhavan.
After a gap of 10 years, the DMK with Stalin at the helm comes back to power for a sixth time in its history by winning the 2021 Assembly elections securing a comfortable majority on its own.
The 68-year-old Stalin wearing white shirt and dhoti came to Raj Bhavan at about 9 a.m.

DMK chief MK Stalin was sworn in as the new chief minister of Tamil Nadu on Friday along with 33 members of his Cabinet. The event at the Raj Bhavan in Chennai was a simple ceremony due to Covid-19 restrictions in place. Stalin s wife Durga Stalin and son Udhyanidhi Stalin and sister Kanimozhi were present during the ceremony. Udhyanidhi Stalin had made his political debut this year and won from Chennai s Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni assembly seat.

The DMK government under Chief Minister-designate M.K. Stalin to be sworn-in on May 7 would have 34 Ministers. While veteran leader Duraimurugan is designated number two in the Cabinet with Water Resources portfolio, former Chennai Mayor Ma. Subramaniam is the new Minister for Medical and Family Welfare and will handle Health Department in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Madurai Central MLA Palanivel Thiagarajan will hold the finance portfolio.
Following a communication from Mr. Stalin, who sent a list of persons to be appointed as Ministers, Governor Banwarilal Purohit approved the recommendations made by the CM-Designate, an official release from the Raj Bhavan stated.

Chennai, May 6 : A total of 34 DMK lawmakers will be sworn in as Ministers at Raj Bhavan on Friday morning including DMK President M.K. Stalin as the next Chief Minister.
Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Thursday released the list of lawmakers who will be appointed as ministers and their portfolios.
According to Raj Bhavan, Stalin had sent a list of persons to be appointed as Ministers along with their portfolios on Thursday.
Stalin s Cabinet will have two women.
