If the Panther Pantry shelves at St. John Paul II Secondary School are full, then staff believe the home cupboards of the school’s most disadvantaged students won’t be empty.
It’s always a challenge particularly in a pandemic but with the help of staff, students and the wider community, the shelves are teeming with goods, said chaplain Jill Forester, who launched the program in 2019.
Craven Community College (Craven CC) faculty, staff and students faced unprecedented challenges in 2020. The college did its best to adapt quickly to the unfolding situation while helping students continue their education as seamlessly as possible. Although this year saw more unique setbacks than in the academic institution’s 52-year history, everyone came together to overcome the obstacles and ended up having a very productive year in the process. The following are some highlights from the college’s 2020 accomplishments.
COVID-19 and the New Normal
Since the pandemic began, Craven CC’s faculty and staff have worked hard to prepare a path forward for students, even as social distancing and mandatory closures hindered the ability to continue with traditional face-to-face instruction. UNI NEWS SERVICES – The University of Northern Iowa Foundation recorded its highest fundraising total in history, raising over $38.9 million last year.
“In a year unlike any other, UNI alumni and friends came together to support the University of Northern Iowa in record-breaking fashion,” said Jim Jermier, vice president for University Advancement and president of the UNI Foundation. “We are extremely grateful for the support and passion our alumni and friends have for the University of Northern Iowa and our students.”
Fundraising in the 2019-20 fiscal year increased 37% over the prior year, exceeding 2018-19 fundraising by $10.4 million. Annual contributions to the UNI Foundation over the past five years have averaged nearly $26 million. In total, 10,313 donors, corporations and foundations gave to support UNI during the year.
