Campaspe Shire Council pledges more small business supports

Victorian Small Business Commission Campaspe Shire Council has partnered with the Victorian Small Business Commission (VSBC) to provide more support to local businesses to do business. The new partnership is through the Small Business Friendly Council initiative, which the VSBC is aiming to roll out to all 79 local government areas in Victoria. The council – currently one of 61 to have made the pledge – will work with the VSBC on important measures including: helping small businesses to keep trading while infrastructure works are underway – including consulting with business owners during the planning phase paying small business suppliers within 14 days helping new local business networks to get up and running and existing ones to thrive

Tributes have begun flowing for Victorian Small Business Commissioner Judy O’Connell, who announced on Tuesday her plans to retire from the role in July.  Victorian Small Business Minister Jaala Pulford, Small Business Ombudsman Bruce Billson, Council of Small Business Organisations Australia chief executive Peter Strong and Franchise Council chief executive Mary Aldred all took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to thank O’Connell for her “outstanding work” and “unwavering dedication” to the state’s small businesses. O’Connell has served as Victoria’s Small Business Commissioner for four-and-a-half years, during which time she has led efforts to improve how councils interact with their small business communities and build awareness among small business operators about their rights and obligations when it comes to leases

Leading small business advocate Commissioner Judy O Connell to retire

Victorian Small Business Commission Judy O’Connell – Victoria’s passionate supporter of regional and metropolitan small businesses – will be retiring from her role as Victorian Small Business Commissioner in June 2021. Over the past four and a half years, Judy has advocated on the real issues affecting business owners – from not getting paid on time to having major infrastructure works disrupt trade – and championed their right to a fair and inclusive operating environment. A core focus for Judy has been building awareness of rights and obligations when it comes to retail leases and other contracts, and helping businesses to resolve disputes quickly and effectively through mediation.
