ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two
lawless elements and a government guide were killed while another government guide was critically wounded during an encounter with police and military authorities in Polomolok, South Cotabato, the Armed Force of the Philippines- Western Mindanao Command(AFP-WestMinCom) reported on Tuesday.
AFP-WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said soldiers of the 5th Special Forces Battalion and Polomolok Municipal Police Station were about to serve a warrant of arrest on Sunday afternoon to Toh Catucan of Purok 1, Barangay Sumbakil, Polomolok when they were fired upon by Catucan and his cohorts.
Catucan was facing Criminal Case Number 5372-18 and 5749-19 for murder,

BUTUAN CITY
(PNA) – A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed, while several firearms and other materials were recovered as the military, responding to information provided by indigenous peoples (IP) communities, engaged the Communist group in a one-hour encounter in a remote area in Sitio Paradise, Barangay Magsaysay in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur on Friday, December 18.
Third Special Forces Battalion (3SFBn) Civil Military Operation Officer First Lt. Krisjuper Andreo J. Punsalan said on Sunday their troops responded to reports made by IP communities that they were facing threats with the presence of more than 30 armed NPA rebels, who were planning to conduct extortion activities at the height of tropical depression Vicky.

BUTUAN CITY – More than 2,000 were displaced by tropical depression Vicky, which exited Caraga region late Friday, December 18.

Absorbing the brunt of the tropical depression were areas in the southern and northern parts of Surigao del Sur where more than 1,600 families were affected by the flash floods.
“We are still collecting data from our different municipal and city disaster councils, but as of this time more than 1,600 families were already affected by the flash floods,” said Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Managements Council (PDRRMC) Head Abel De Guzman, in phone interview with The Manila Bulletin on Saturday.
