COLOMBO (News 1st): The Special Operation Team of Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested six people in the Negombo coastal area, for the possession of 1500 Kg of Beedi Leaves (Tendu Leaves) smuggled from India, Sri Lanka Police said on Saturday (May 01).
Three vehicles were also taken into Police custody.
“According to the investigation, it has been revealed that the Beedi Leaves had been smuggled from the coast of South India and transported by sea to the Negombo beach,” Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Saturday (May 01).
The stock of 1500 kg of Beedi Leaves (Tendu Leaves) is worth Rs. 12 million, the Deputy Police Chief noted.

Betting racket busted, 4 people arrested

Hyderabad: Special Operation Team (SOT) of Malkajgiri zone busted a betting racket and arrested 4 persons involved in the online betting of cricket matches.
The SOT seized Rs.7 lakhs and one thousand in cash, ten mobile phones and an LED TV from them.
Addressing the media personnel, the Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said that the main bookie M. Sai Kumar (35), a resident of Old Safilguda, B.Kishore Babu (39) native of Guntur district, Sandeep (27) resident of Sainath puram and Kishore (28) native of Guntur district have all been arrested.

Key Highlights
Those arrested have been identified as Mijanur alias Shariful Shailk (36), his wife Ajmira Khatun (32) and agent Murtuza Shaikh (31) – all nationals of Bangladesh.
The husband-wife duo had planned to force the 17-year-old girl into prostitution to make money.
Further investigations into the matter are underway.
